Product Review: Clindamycin
Here is the product review Clinda M lotion or Clindamycin. It’s one of the most common acne treatments that I got from the dermatologist, too. Hope the review will be helpful for you guys to buy an acne treatment.
Product claim: Clinda M (sciene name is Clindamycin) is lincosamide antibiotic. It is usually used to treat infections with anaerobic bacteria but can also be used to treat some protozoal diseases, such as malaria. It is a common topical treatment for acne.
Clindamycin is indicated as the treatment of mild, moderate and severe acne vulgaris, either alone or in combination with other anti-acne medications.
Benefit of Clindamycin in acne treatment:
1. It has antibacterial activity against P.acnes
2. It decreases free fatty acids on the skin surface from 15-25%, thus reducing the inflammatory activity in the hair follicles.
Product review (my own comment) :
I use Clindamycin under “Clinda M lotion” brand name and it’s one of my common acne treatments I’ve also used it for several years.
- Like it’s claimed, Clindamycin is a treatment for the mild, moderate and infected acne. It doesn’t work with non-inflammatory acne. After using it, the inflamed acne will be drier. Sometimes the acne will be gone but it sometimes will become the non-inflammatory acne under the skin instead.
- The Clindamycin lotion/gel is the cheap acne treatment and is available at the drug store. So it can be one of the good choices for treatment’s mild or moderate acne.
- I’ve been told that if using Clindamycin for a long time, it may not work.
- However, multiple studies have shown the use of clindamycin in conjunction with benzoyl peroxide, which is available both through prescription or over-the-counter, to be more effective in the treatment of acne than the use of either product by itself.
Note:
- Clindamycin is marketed under various trade names including Clinda M, Cleocin T, Clindamax, Cleocin Vaginal, Clindagel. I have the Clinda M lotion but you can choose another available brand. I think it should work in the same way.
- If you use Clindamycin lotion at the first time, your skin may be reddish because it’s alcohol-base solution. However, there are other options such as Clindamycin gel.
- Topical clindamycin should not be used in pregnancy and lactation.
